QUICK BITE -

Salesian brothers with the community of DB Loutolim

The Salesian Brothers were hosted by the Community of Don Bosco, Loutulim on 11th March 2025. Fifteen Salesian (Coadjutor / Lay) Brothers from the INP, INB and INH Provinces arrived at 10:30 am, and were welcomed with a welcome song by the Pre-Novices.

After welcoming the Brothers in Salesian style, the Brothers and the Pre-Novices had an interactive session, which was initiated by the Rector, Father Ian Figueiredo, with a short prayer. In this session, each Brother shared about his calling to the Salesian religious life. The Pre- Novices interacted freely with the Brothers, and asked questions regarding the vocation, life and mission of the Salesian Brother.

As the session concluded, the Pre- Novices presented a short program during which they felicitated the Brothers. The program included a song, an address, a dance, and a skit.

Brother Alister D'Souza of the Mumbai Province, thanked the Pre-Novices for their performance, and delivered a short message, saying that we should not compare the Salesian Brother's Vocation to that of a Salesian Priest, as both these Vocations are unique and indispensable for the Church and for the Salesian Congregation. Further, stressing on the Call to the Salesian Brotherhood, he said that great power and witnessing value lies in serving others in simplicity of life. He drew similarities between the Salesian Brother's Vocation and that of St. Joseph. St. Joseph, who even though lived a hidden life, was called to play a crucial role in Salvation History by taking care of Mary and the boy Jesus.

Post lunch, the Pre-Novices played a Volleyball match against the Brothers. After the evening tea, the Brothers departed for the Community of Don Bosco, Fatorda; thus bringing this memorable encounter to an end.

One of the Pre-Novices expressed that the presence of these Salesian Brothers was very welcoming and friendly; and that he is now able to better appreciate the Vocation of the Salesian Brother.
