In a warm and loving ceremony preceded by the Holy Mass, Brother Frederick (Freddy) D’Souza was laid to final rest at the Salesian cemetery of the Salesian Province of Panjim-Konkan at Don Bosco Fatorda, surrounded by the Salesian confreres, family members, friends and benefactors on November 3, 2025.
Brother Frederick, served and worked tirelessly in the Salesian provinces of Mumbai and Panjim-Konkan till the very end of November morning 2, 2025. He was 85 years old still enthusiastic to work and contribute his might to the mission said Father Clive Telles, provincial of Panjim-Konkan province. His characteristic trait was dedication to the youth in technical education, persistence in executing his responsibility and devotion to the Eucharist and the Rosary. Recalling the vocation story of Brother Freddy, Father Telles said, his application to join the congregation said, I want to become a Salesian to save my soul and those who will be entrusted to my care, a resolution he kept till his last breath.
Rector, Don Bosco Provincial House, Father Joel D’Souza in his homily said, Brother Freddy lived a very simply and silent life but he had a strong faith. He was a true Salesian Brother a man of work and prayer. He spent much of his time in his younger days in the workshop patiently shaping and moulding technicians but young hearts and minds. His hammer and spanner were not just tools, but instruments of education and love.
Speaking on the occasion, Brother Freddy’s nephew thanked the Salesian province for taking care of his uncle especially in the last few months and the doctors for the dedicated and loving care they provided. He recalled his earlier days when he waited to meet his favorite uncle who taught him with patience to handle projects like painting his bicycle with a touch of professionalism.
Vice Provincial, INP, Father Banzelao Teixeira, read the letters of condolences sent by the Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman and Regional Superior for South Asia, Father Biju Michael.
Brother James Marcus recalled the life long service Brother Freddy rendered to the Salesian Provinces of Mumbai and then Panjim-Konkan, pioneering many of our present technical institutions.
