INP Don Bosco Youth Paschers Participate in Taizé Prayer Service

QUICK BITE -

The Don Bosco Youth Paschers organised a Taizé Prayer Service at the Don Bosco Animation Centre, Benaulim. The prayer service was open to all and brought together nearly 50 participants from diverse age groups, who spent two hours immersed in an atmosphere of worship, silence, adoration, and reflection on the Word of God on February 8, 2026.

Taizé Prayer is a Christian tradition inspired by the Taizé Community, an ecumenical monastic community based in Taizé, France. Characterised by its serene and contemplative nature, the prayer service fostered a peaceful ambience that drew participants into a deeper focus on the cross and the presence of God. Periods of silence allowed for personal reflection and meditation, while the repetitive chants created a calming rhythm that guided participants toward an intimate and personal encounter with God.

The service began with chants of praise and thanksgiving, invoking the presence of the Holy Spirit. Father Austin Fernandes then addressed the gathering, explaining the origin, significance, and spiritual importance of Taizé Prayer. He blessed the cross and all those present, setting a reverent tone for the prayer that followed. The intimate and sacred atmosphere encouraged communal prayer while also providing space for individuals to offer their personal intentions out loud, fostering a strong sense of unity and togetherness in prayer.

Participants were invited, one by one, to approach the cross and place their hands upon it in prayer. This meaningful gesture of surrender enabled many to experience a profound sense of connection with God and with one another.

The prayer service concluded with everyone gathered around the cross as Father Fernandes imparted the final blessing and sprinkled holy water on the assembly. All who attended departed with hearts filled with peace, renewed faith, and a deeper awareness of God’s presence in their lives. Reflecting the spirit of the evening and the Salesian charism, the words of Saint John Bosco resonated deeply with all present, Prayer is the key which opens God’s heart.
The Taizé Prayer Service, served as a gentle reminder of this call, inviting all present—especially the youth—to encounter God in silence, simplicity, and prayer.
