DBCE participating in the BIS Stockholders conclave in Goa


On 8th October 2024, the BIS Club members of Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), Fatorda accompanied by BIS Co-ordinator, Professor Mohini Naik, attended the BIS Stakeholders Conclave at Taj Vivanta, Panaji, Goa. Organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hubli Branch Office, the conclave featured a series of talks from government officials, industry leaders, and academics, focusing on BIS standards, licenses, and sustainability initiatives.

Scientist-E, Director BIS Hubli, D.P. Kumar, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the mission of BIS and its importance in ensuring quality standards across various sectors. Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Goa, Jayant G. Tari, delivered the keynote address, on the impact of BIS standards on civil supplies and their role in consumer protection. He shared insights on how BIS works with the government and industries to ensure that products meet the required quality and safety standards.

Professor, Goa Institute of Management, Dr Divya Singhal, delivered an insightful talk on, Sustainability and Indian Standards: Promoting Green Manufacturing and Eco-Friendly Practices. Dr Singhal elaborated on the pressing need for industries to adopt sustainable practices that align with BIS standards. She stressed the importance of reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing and encouraged businesses to integrate eco-friendly processes into their operations.

The session on BIS concluded with an overview presented by Scientist-C and Deputy Director, BIS Hubli, M. Pradeep Kumar. He provided a detailed explanation of BIS’s objectives, its role in ensuring product quality, and how its standardization efforts benefit both consumers and industries alike.

The conclave provided an enriching platform for dialogue on the role of BIS in promoting quality standards and sustainability. Sessions were well-received, with particular attention paid to how BIS is working towards integrating green manufacturing and eco-friendly practices into its regulatory framework.
