Mental Awareness Day held at Don Bosco Trasi


Don Bosco School, Trasi hosted the Mental Health Day event aimed at raising awareness about mental health among students. The event was conducted only for the students from Class 9 to Class 12. The event featured a panel discussion with staff and students, promoting open dialogue and understanding of mental health issues on October 5, 2024.

The event began with a warm welcome by the Rector and Principal, Father Maxim D’souza who emphasized the importance of mental health in the academic environment. He highlighted key issues such as stigma reduction, the significance of emotional well-being, and available support resources for students.

A panel discussion was held featuring three staff members and two students. Questions were already collected in advance from the students and the same were posed to the panellists, consisted of Father Roshan D’Souza, Teacher Rakshitha N.J, Teacher Benita Olivera, Master Ashton Barreto and Miss Maria Ribeiro. The key points discussed were, Personal Experiences, where panellists shared their experiences with mental health, encouraging students to recognize that they are not alone in facing challenges. Secondly, Common Issues, topics included anxiety, stress management, self-acceptance and self-harm. Thirdly, Coping Strategies, the panel offered practical tips for maintaining mental wellness, such as practicing mindfulness, physical exercise, and seeking help when needed. And finally, Encouraging Open Dialogue, the importance of creating a supportive community where students feel comfortable discussing their mental health was emphasized.

School Counsellor, Teacher Rakshitha, in her closing remarks, quoted the example of the sponge expressed the need to be in good environment to blossom as we are product of our environment. She stressed on the need to prioritise mental health and the need to have someone to talk. The event ended with the National Anthem.
