DBC Panjim Students on the historic hinterlands of Kushavati river, Goa


Students of Don Bosco College, Panjim ventured on an enriching field trip to the historic hinterlands of Kushavati. The trip was curated by Assistant Professor Advocate Celeste Saldanha, with the accompaniment of Assistant Professors Nigel Barreto, Marina Martins, Kapila Chodankar and Jude Fernandes on September 28, 2024.

The students visited several noteworthy sites, beginning with the Nandi of Chandor, the former capital of Goa, which provided insights into the region's rich history. The exploration continued at the Rivona Caves, significant for their association with Buddhism, followed by the Pansaimal rock carvings, which are remarkable petroglyphs dating back to approximately 7,000 years, nestled along the banks of the Kushavati River.

Advocate Saldanha engaged the students with captivating stories about each destination, illuminating the historical significance of Chandor and the spread of Buddhism in Goa. This immersive experience not only educated the students about their heritage but also instilled a sense of pride in their cultural identity.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the trip, highlighting how it inspired them to explore their roots and learn more about Goa's diverse history. The journey revealed a rich cultural tapestry that extends well beyond the state's popular tourist destinations.
