The English Department of Don Bosco College, Panjim organized an educational field trip for the students of SY and TY BA (English) on January 28, 2026 with the objective of providing students with experiential learning opportunities beyond the classroom. The field trip aimed to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world practices while also fostering cultural awareness. The destinations included The Herald Printing Press, Verna and Goa Chitra Museum.
The first visit to The Herald Printing Press provided students with information on the newspaper printing process. The staff demonstrated how machines handle various stages such as ink adjustment, lamination, punching, cutting, folding, and arrangement of printed material. Students also observed how defective copies are automatically rejected.
The visit gave students first-hand exposure to the functioning of print media, helping them understand concepts related to journalism, mass communication, and media studies through direct observation.

At the Goa Chitra Museum, the students interacted with Victor Hugo Gomes, a renowned Goan heritage collector. He shared insights into his 25-year-long journey of collecting and preserving Goan and Indian heritage, noting that only a small portion of his collection is displayed publicly.
Students explored the Kruti Section which included everyday household items from old Portuguese-Goan homes, the Chakra Section which held carts and raths from different regions of India, each with cultural significance, and the Chitra Section which was filled with artifacts from churches and temples, traditional fishing tools, palm-leaf objects, and occupational tools used by artisans.
Gomes spoke about the financial and environmental challenges of heritage conservation, highlighting the lack of public sensitivity towards heritage preservation and urged students to value and protect cultural history. His talk encouraged learners to view heritage as a vital resource for future development.
The field trip was both educational and enriching. It successfully combined academic learning with cultural exposure and experiential pedagogy, making it a meaningful and memorable learning experience for the students.
