Savio Boys’ Home, Sulcorna hosted a Marian Nite celebration on August 9, 2026 at the Humberto Mascarenhas Hall, Sulcorna. Around 100 young people from the Savio Boys’ Home, the FMA convent, members of the Friends of Dominic Savio group and a few other devoted youngsters attended the event.
The programme began at 4.30pm with the recitation of the rosary as the designated teams walked in procession to the hall and took their places. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm and devotion of the youngsters who despite coming from mixed religious backgrounds were eagerly participating in the programme. Their creativity in decorating their respective group tables, preparing posters and badges, working as a team to prepare and present a creative advertisement, a yell and a clap was a real treat.
The programme was well-planned and executed by Cleric Seymour Afonso under the guidance of Father Constantine Fernandes. Cleric Afonso anchored the programme and kept the youngsters engaged for the length of the evening with creative games, quiz rounds, group activities and action songs. The presence of Salesian fathers and sisters added grace and colour to the event; the Salesian presence was noticeable especially during the games and activities as they eagerly got involved in guiding and accompanying the young in their efforts to be the best. The competition was tough and a few points separated the top 5 teams, but alas, Team Guadalupe emerged victorious.
The programme concluded with a hearty fellowship meal shared by all. Rector, Father Laurence, knighted the winners by placing a sword on each of their shoulders and crowning them with specially prepared crowns. Prizes were distributed to all the participants as a souvenir of the evening. The effect of the evening was easily noticeable on the faces of the youngsters who were ecstatic and enlightened by all that they did and learned along the way.
