The Department of Electronics and Computer Science at Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), Fatorda, successfully conducted a 20-day Finishing School on Industrial Automation in association with Autotech Technologies from July 20 to August 7, 2026.



The programme brought together students from the Electronics and Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering departments, providing them with practical exposure to three major areas of industrial automation—Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and Human-Machine Interface (HMI).



The training was conducted by Mr. Sandip Mone, Proprietor and Trainer, and Ms. Sanjita Nadkarni, Project In-charge and Trainer, from Autotech Technologies. Students received hands-on training in VFD programming, motor control, PLC ladder programming, industrial wiring and HMI-PLC communication.

The VFD module covered topics such as braking, speed control, relay triggering, sensor wiring and load connections. The PLC sessions introduced students to Allen Bradley MicroLogix 1000, ladder programming, logic gates, counters, timers, interlocking and industrial applications. The HMI module focused on touchscreen operation, page and tag generation, communication with PLCs and monitoring timer and counter values.

The valedictory function was held on August 7 in the presence of Principal Dr. Neena Panandikar, HOD of Electronics and Computer Science Dr. D. S. Vidhya, HOD of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Suraj Marathe, resource person Ms. Sanjita Nadkarni, and Prof. Flavia Leitao. Students were awarded certificates of completion and shared their experiences of the training.

The students expressed appreciation for the programme, highlighting its contribution to strengthening their practical skills and preparing them for industry requirements. The management and students also presented tokens of appreciation to the trainers for their contribution to the programme.
The Finishing School was coordinated by Prof. Flavia Leitao, whose efforts contributed to the successful completion of the programme.
